The contest points-to-date tally has now been updated with the qualifiers to date for the Grand Final on the same list.
News 23rd June
The second round of the BLU series held at Watergate Bay produced an extremely challenging two days for both organisers and contestants alike. Saturday's very small conditions meant that the event was postponed till the Sunday after only being able to hold the first round of the Open Division. Sunday was the complete opposite with near gale force onshore winds with a confused, short period and large swell, at least it was sunny. Ladies and Juniors divisions were held first to take advantage of deeper water giving an easier paddle out. By the afternoon the first round of the Masters were held but the Masters semi's postponed till BLU-3 due to the contestants struggling in the worsening conditions. A surfers / organisers meeting decided to continue with the Open Division contest subject to a constant review of the conditions - 15 minute paddle out time was the norm. The final produced a great display of sheer guts and great surfing in the challenging conditions with Ben Skinner winner of the Open Division.
Winner of the Ladies division was Marja van Leeuwen
Winner of the Juniors Division was Evan Rogers
A big well done to Ben, Marja and Evan for overcoming what were extremely difficult conditions to win their division and to all those competitors (especially the Juniors) who took part in a day we won't forget in a hurry.
One other note, we wish a speedy recovery to Stu Cross who suffered a head injury after being blown off his van. Stu was airlifted to Truro but released later that day.
Over the next week I will upload pictures of the event and the updated points scored to date.
